Paper prototypes for landing page art

I’m currently designing a WordPress site from scratch for a lumber truss company based in Rome, GA. They create building components for walls, roofs and housing foundations.

In addition to wireframing site pages and thinking through user experience, I’ve been developing secondary art to illustrate their manufacturing and design processes. Presented are some of those illustrations in flat art style.

The same client was in need of rebranding their corporate identity. They are a solidly established company but want to grow their sales. Their existing logo was likely created in CorelDraw or Word. It was not vector-based.

I updated their main mark while retaining its essence. The former mark was green with blocky black text—it had beautiful negative space that wasn’t being showcased. We explored some typographic options before landing on a combination between Raleway and Source Sans Pro. I then put together some color combinations with variants of blue.

Wheeler’s clients are contractors who build apartment complexes and houses. After taking a run in my neighborhood, I realized I had picked out colors found in housing exteriors! Funny how everyday design infiltrates our psyche.
